I happened to have some fibres in red, white and blue -
which brought to mind the UK flag, the 'Union Jack'.  
It was made in 2001, before the Queen's Golden Jubilee (celebrating 50 years on the throne)
and was in my mind because the British flag had, at last, become acceptable ...
even fashionable.  
It also has a political dimension, in that the piece shows
the flag almost unravelling - as the 'United' Kingdom could seem to be.  
Thus, its original working title - 'Jack Falling Apart'.
The client who bought this piece subsequently commissioned a US flag, as a companion piece,
